TOD EMEL

Tod Emel (b. 1973 Vanderhoof, BC) completed his BFA at the University of Saskatchewan in 2005. He currently lives in Saskatoon where he maintains an active curatorial and multimedia studio practice. He regularly performs live audio in Saskatoon both as a solo artist, and in collaborative projects. He has presented his audio work at local and national festivals. His first solo painting exhibition Topo opened in January 2019 at Darrell Bell Gallery. In February 2019, following a one-month production residency at the University of Saskatchewan’s Kenderdine Gallery, Tod opened his first solo intermedia exhibition A Forest, curated by Leah Taylor.

From 2008-11, Tod served as the Director of AKA Gallery in Saskatoon where he initiated the Sounds Like audio art festival in 2011. In 2015, Tod formed the Unheard Sound collective along with Travis Cole and Chad Munson, presenting curated experimental audio art events, including Sounds Like since 2017. Tod has presented audio art workshops for students, artists, and marginalized persons in mental health and addictions programs. Tod has received several grants from the Saskatchewan Arts Board, and the Canada Council for the Arts. He has served as a juror with the SAB and Canada Council. Tod is represented by Darrell Bell Gallery in Saskatoon.
