Catherine Macaulay was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan and grew up on a farm just outside of the city. She received her BA from the University of Saskatchewan and a Library Science degree fron the University of Alberta. She worked in public library systems across Canada for many years and while living in Regina she began taking evening art classes through the University of Regina. This experience inspired her to move back to Saskatoon where she completed an Honours degree in Studio Art and Art History. She now lives and works in Val Marie, Saskatchewan. Her works draws from the natural world experience; through images of growth, she explores shadows and light and intensity of colour. Catherine has exhibited across Western Canada and in Scotland and Ireland and is represented in public and private collections across the country and overseas.
